Once upon a time there was a pandemic. People ignored it as much as they could and lived their lives like nothing had changed. And nothing much did change. A lot of people got sick and were quite miserable for a while. Some were less sick. Roughly a billion people died, mostly the elderly and the sick. But there were still more than 6 billion people left, and while on a personal level there were many tragedies and lots of grief life on earth pretty much went on as before. The undertakers were the biggest winners. The economy was stronger than ever, now that the ones who needed the most support had been weeded out.
