Bankrotte Staaten, Tsunami, Reaktorunfall, Polschmelze - alles scheint auf einen Crash hinauszulaufen, den wir selbst erschaffen haben. Sehen wir dabei zu, während wir Konjunktur- und Hilfspakete schnüren, können wir aus dem Kreislauf ausbrechen? Kann mithilfe von Kunst zu einer neuen Position, gar zu einer neuen Vision gefunden werden? Oder ist sie in ihrem Boom durch Kommerzialisierung und Marketingstrategien sogar zu einem "Kreativprodukt" selbstbezogener Künstler verkümmert?
Über 30 international renommierte Künstler und drei Co-Kuratoren wurden von der Kuratorin Nicole Loeser eingeladen. Sie beziehen vom 31.08.2011 bis 03.09.2011 in einer ehemaligen Tresorfabrik in Wedding dazu Position. Neben künstlerischen Werken von Malerei über Video und Installation bietet das Rahmenprogramm Performances, Künstlergespräche und Vorträge.
Ziel ist es für vier Tage lang, einen Ort für utopische Träume und alternative Welten zu schaffen.
Realisiert wird das Traumexperiment in einer unabhängigen Produktionsstätte, die temporär unter dem Namen Mica Moca project berlin agiert. Wedding befindet sich derzeit im Umbruch: der sozial schwache Bezirk mit einem hohen Anteil an Freiräumen wird mehr und mehr aufgekauft, kommerzialisiert und - auch im übertragenen Sinne verputzt. Ende September wird auch dieses Areal zu Lofts und Büros umgebaut werden.
Nachdem der Traum des Kapitalismus bzw. der Marktwirtschaft in den letzten Monaten zu einem bösen Erwachen geführt hat, wird es gelingen, einen neuen Traum zu träumen?

Bankrupt states, extreme weather patterns, nuclear accidents, polar ice melt - everything seems to suggest an imminent crash, and one of our own manufacture. Are we too passive in simply putting together economic and aid packages, or can we overcome the apparently vicious cycle? And can art itself serve to form a new position and even create a new vision? Or is art relegated to the confines of commercial enterprise, to the creation of products by which individuals are exalted for a market-savvy one-upmanship?
The End of the Dream features over 30 internationally renowned artists and three co-curators, invited by
curator, Nicole Loeser. From 31/08/2011 to 03/09/2011 their work will be installed in a former safe factory in Wedding. In addition to an exhibition of paintings, videos and installations, the program will include performances, artist talks and lectures.
Realizing the dream of an independent experiment, the goal of the Mica Moca Project-Berlin and now
Nicole Loeser is to create a place for utopian dreams and alternate worlds. Wedding is currently in
transition; with respect to other parts of Berlin, this ungentrified area with vast offerings of open space
is now being bought up and commercialized more and more - plastered figuratively as much as literally.
In the end of September the site of this exhibition will also be converted into lofts and offices.
Following a sort of rude awakening from the dream of capitalism and the recent months’ market economy, will it be possible for us to dream a new dream?
