Saving the world by pandemic? A utopian tale

The utopian view:

Once upon a time there was a tiny little virus. Of all the viruses, bacteria and other pathogens it was brave and powerful enough to stop the destruction of the world.

It hitched a ride to the market with a pangolin. 


It hit old men the hardest,



thereby dramatically changing the political landscape. 


After many months of economic lockdown and social distancing, nature was able to recover sufficiently to avert climate disaster. The air and water were so clean and fresh that many people with chronic conditions (such as asthma, lung disease and allergies) felt great improvement.
